Baby progress February 27, 2007

No it’s not here yet, wish it was though, had a crazy week of visiting midwives, and a trip to the hospital, all I want is to have my baby at home.  Women have been doing this since time began, why is it such a big deal!! and why are they so deperate to take control!!

Anyway, the baby projects are coming along, I’ve needed something to keep my mind occupied.  We’re full of cold, again!!! and I’m finding driving uncomfortable so we’re a bit house bound.

I’ve made my first quilt, I made L a knitted blanket and bunny when she was ‘in utero’, so thought I’d do something similar this time.  I bought a few FQ’s at the ‘Knitting & Stitching Show’ in Harrogate, mostly 50’s retro kiddy prints, and found one that wasn’t too girly (just in case), I’m sure it’s a Michael Miller print.  And away I went (sorry the photos are a bit washed out).

Quilt in progress

The border is quilting cotton, that I use on ‘Sleepytoes‘ Slings, dusky pink and sage green.  I machined these pieces together, then  overlocked it on a hemp fleece backing (bought from Babeco, along with my bamboo terry).  And made a binding out of another Michael Miller fabric (also used on my slings!!!)

quilt & MOOPY

I hand sewed all around the borders through the fleece, and then did a scalloped type design to quilt the fabric (it seemed to fit well around the fabric design).  The fleece is so lovely and soft, I had to make a bunny out of the same fabric.  He’s a bit subdued for a mini-moopy, but it turned out really soft and lovely, perfect for a newborn (this is the link for the pattern).

Of course L took a shine to the bunny and almost acquired it as her own, so I had to make her one similar.  She arranged the photo!!

sleeping bunnies

I used this pattern, but made it a bit smaller and didn’t add the pocket.

The embroidery on the ring sling’s finished, and the pockets sewn on, here’s a pic of the pocket.  Just need an action shot now!!

Happy New Year December 31, 2006

Now that chritmas is over, I can post what I’ve been upto in the last month or so. Sleepytoes is usually quiet this time of year, so I had lots of time to make christmas prezzies.

Here’s a few, still need to photograph a couple of things I made for my daughter.

Felt sewing kit

I made this kit for my mum, including the shrinky dink pins, she was really pleased with it. I made a larger version of the origami bag below to put it all in.

Russian doll

Doll, inspired by russian dolls made for a friends daughter (I hope she liked it). I also made the origami bag for it to go in, (I can’t find the tutorial for it at the moment but when I do I’ll add it, it’s so easy)

Felt bus and car bag

Made for my friends son, he’s mad on cars and also likes soft toys.  I found the pattern in an Aranzi Aronzo book, and made him little drawstring bag to keep his cars in.

Hat & Scarf

Ribbed hat and scarf knitted for my dad, fits just right too.  Also made a hat for my daughter, pink with a bear embroidered on though!!!

Bear Hat

I’ve got a few more things to post, but they’ll have to wait for another day, it’s taken me 3 attempts to get this far, just getting the hang of using flickr to post pics!!!

 See you in 2007

This is the stuff I’ve got on the go at the moment.

I bought a sock kit from Web Of Wool, I’ve never tried sock before so it’s a bit of a challenge using 4 needles, but I love them and want to make more, I’ve finished one and half way through the other.

And I’ve become an Art Collaborator, hhhmmm, Stephanie at the Anti-Factory who makes fantastic clothes out of vintage fabrics, and is also an accomplished artist, has an ongoing project called The Counterfeit Crochet Project
The idea is for crafters around the world to knock off a designer hand bag in crochet, she’s really interested in peoples interpretations of the design elements. After a crash course in crochet from my mum, I took up the challenge (well I get an anti-factory top for all my hard work!). Here it is half done

And this is the original Louis Viutton version
Murakami

Can you see the resemblance!!!
And I came across somethig called Redwork, it’s a style of embroidery using just red thread, I’ve had a go and it’s really quick and easy, not sure what I’m going to do with it yet though
